Leland Fishing report July 1st

Group Fishing on a Leland Fishing Charter on Lake Michigan

Fishing out of Leland Michigan is Fantastic. North Manitou Island is giving up a handful of King Salmon almost every day. It is just a matter of time until a large school of Salmon will show up. However, right now the Lake Trout are the showstoppers. We are catching large, heavy, hard fighting,  trophy Lakers. This week we had a group of high school and college wrestlers out and after they landed a few King Salmon and beautiful Steelhead we headed to the Lake Trout grounds and added another 10 Lakers all over 10 pounds. The fishing could not have been better. We are experiencing some of the best mix bag fishing I have seen in over a decade. The salmon found 30-60 feet down in the water column when fishing in 100-200 feet of water. The bite has been mostly in the first 2-3 hours of the morning. We are setting up a combination of spoons and on the downriggers, lead core, wire dipsey, and coppers lines. The copper lines have not produced any Kings bites yet, however the others have done pretty good. The Beavers Lures Alien Breath spoon has taken a fish every day. PK Special, double Orange Crush, Wonder Bread and Green Knight have all taken fish.  Around 8am we pick up lines and move to the Lake Trout grounds. Lake Trout fishing is deep precision fishing. We use two downriggers. One has on the #5 Hammerhead Lake Trout Killer cowbells followed by a Pink Luminous Spin-n-Glow and the other has Dreamweaver 10-inch Dragon Slayer Spin Doctor followed by a Dreamweaver green/glow Whirly Gig. We try to keep these baits just a foot or two off the bottom. The Lake Trout can’t resist these baits. The Lake Trout are feeding on the Round Gobies and can’t seem to avoid are baits. The fishing is great. We have openings in July. Contact us and let’s go have some fun!
