I had some family and friends in town this weekend so we were able to get out and do some fishing near South Manitou Island. I have to say that after the many days of high winds and rough seas, it changed on Sunday morning, although it was cold, the conditions turned out to provide calm seas and sunny skies. We set up southwest of South Manitou Island and set up to find King Salmon. We did, using standard size spoons on the Downrigger’s, the Dipsy diver, and the planer rod set ups. We did pretty good on Sunday, We ended up with four salmon and three lake trout. It was just my brother and I and we were using a six rod set up. Well the weather was forecasted to be pretty much the same on Monday morning so we convinced our buddy Tim to come out and go fishing with us. It was pretty much the same except we caught more Kings and more lake trout than we did the day before. The salmon are pretty much hitting on the standard size spoons: Blue and white color seems to be the best but then you throw in some bright colors here and there and you seem to get a bite every now and then. We got a couple bites on flasher and flies and magnum spoons but most of the bites came on the standard size spoon. I expect that the Fishing is going to continue to get better as the water temps out by the South Island, 47 degrees, moves north and that warmer water gets closer to the Port of Leland. You should believe that June is a great time to fish for King Salmon. We have openings available so please give us a call. We’d love to get you out.
