The Reelin Leland Fishing Charters 2025 fishing season started April 5th on West Grand Traverse Bay. I was so excited to get out on the water a couple weeks earlier than last year. The first crew of the season was celebrating a young man’s bachelor party. We started early in the morning jigging for lake trout and halfway through we switched over to trolling for the fish using cowbells, spin-n-glows, flasher and flies with spin-n-glows, and spoons on different rod and reel set ups. We ended up catching 15 fish and keeping 10 of those lake trout on that beautiful cold morning in early April. The fishing started strong and I expect it continue all season long.
Our next trip of the 2025 season we fished out of the Port of Manistee and were targeting brown trout. We caught one brown trout and a steelhead on some original Rapala crank baits. Then moved into some deeper water and we got half a dozen of lake trout. The month of April continued to provide for a very good Fishing. Depending on the day and the weather conditions sometimes it is better to jig for the lake trout, other times, it was better to troll with different set ups such as cowbells, flashers, and spoons. all in all, we ended the month of April with half a dozen trips with happy customers some catching personal best fish and others catching a species for the first time, all while, taking it in the beauty of this of West Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan from the Port of Leland, Fishtown! Even though it was early April the 250 Alaskan Hewescraft is equipped with an on-board heater and kept everyone comfortable.
