When we get to the end of July most people start to think about King salmon fishing. Though we have caught a couple kings in West Grand Traverse Bay earlier in the year, now is the time to target King salmon fishing. The next two months will have more and more kings returning to West Grand Traverse Bay as these fish will chase schools of alewife putting on weight to give them the energy they need to spawn and complete their life cycle leaving the Boardman River and other smaller creeks and streams filled with fertilized eggs to start their offspring’s four year journey.
This time of year is so exciting to get out on the water setting up a spread of different fishing baits using different methods to present to the king salmon. All the angler’s have so much anticipation waiting for the 1st rod and reel to start screaming out line with a hard driving, drag pulling force that will get anyone awake and wanting to hold the rod for their chance to land a mighty King salmon.
Yes we have caught salmon all season long, however, the beginning of the salmon spawning season starts when the Kings start to cruise near their home rivers and stage up eating bait fish until nature tells them it is time to enter the river and spawn. We are geared up with all the needed tackle and the positive attitude to get these trophy fish on the line and onto the deck of our boat. All we need is you to call and book an adventure so we can share this incredible fishing experience together. Let’s go fishing! Let’s go have some fun!
This past week we had nice catches of Lake trout in the Bay and the Steelhead continue to bite spoons on most trips. Cowbells and Spin Doctors with spin-n-glows have been effective for taking Lakers, however spoons have also been good. This time of year we set out the spread using many techniques and baits. Flasher and fly combinations, meat rig presentation, spoons and even plug baits. Glow baits with a green and black dots have been successful.
